After a frustrating scoreless draw against Rio Ave - their first such result since September 26th - Sporting CP will be eager to get back on track as they take on Nacional on Saturday. With the title race heating up, Jorge Jesus's side will have a close eye on the big Classico match between Benfica and Porto, but regardless of the outcome in that match, nothing short of three points will suffice as the Lions need to stay within touching distance of the reigning champions.
Currently in second, Sporting CP are in a good position to finally end their long wait for the Primeira Liga title. The last time they found themselves on the winners' podium was during the 2001/2002 season, and having lost just once this term, their fans' hopes are high to see it happen this May.
Jorge Jesus's men have already both Benfica and Porto in league play without conceding a goal, and have a re-match with the Eagles coming up next month. Sporting CP fans will also hope that Islam Slimani will re-discover his impressive form that has seen him net 16 goals in the league and 20 across all competitions. The Algerian attacker has not scored since grabbing a brace in the Lions' 3-1 victory over Pacos de Ferreira on January 23rd, and his goals have often made the difference between a draw and all three points for his side.
Well, he will have the chance against Nacional, a side that have won just one out of their five fixtures. The hosts have not enjoyed playing against Sporting CP as of late, with their last win taking place on February 27, 2011 and presently sit in 15th, just two points away from the relegation zone. With that in mind, Nacional will be doing their utmost best to frustrate their visitors as they continue their own battle for survival in the top fight.
