Rodrigo opened up the scoring for the home side but Pašalić soon equalised for the Monaco. However two goals in the second half from Dani Parejo and Feghouli gave Valencia as easy 3-1 win.

However despite having fared so well in the first leg, Valencia manager Nuno Espírito Santo will be taking nothing for granted and is hopeful his side can finish the job at Monaco.

"It was a good game and it was important that we won," Nuno told reporters after the play-off round first-leg clash.

"This game has been on our minds ever since the final game of last season in Almeria. We are back to being the team we were before - winners. We showed character just at the point when we were struggling to go for goal.

"At this point, Monaco are a little more advanced because their season has already started but we managed to put three goals past them and I am very proud of my team for that; it showed that we are a team who wants to win.

"The result is there now; our objective was to win this tie. Now we will be going to Monaco to compete and we know what awaits us.

"Nothing is definitive in this competition and we will be going there with the same ambition to win. There are no favourites."

Leonardo Jardim is expected to make changes from the side which drew 1-1 against Toulouse with a host of star players rested. They will however be without star player Joao Moutinho who has been replaced in the Champions League squad by Lacina Traore. Helder Costa has also been ruled out with an injury whereas Aymen Abdennour is not fully fit.

Feghouli and Jose Luis Gaya who were banned for the weekend match against Rayo will return to the squad. Diego Alves' injury means that Mat Ryan will start in goal for Tuesday's match.
