One of FIFA's Vicepresidents, Uruguayan Eugenio Figueredo, stated today Luis Suarez's ban could be reduced, after some time has passed since his fellow countryman was sanctioned for biting Giorgio Chiellini during last summer's World Cup.
"As time goes by, we may be able to address this issue politically. We may try to make his ban easier on him," Figueredo told in an interview.
Suarez was banned for four months, plus nine official games with his National Team. He will be able to play with his club after October 25th, but he still has to serve eight games with Uruguay. Regarding the player's past efforts to reduce his ban, Figueredo felt confident this time, the end result may be positive:
"His efforts back then were sterile, but this is a different time. Back then, there was no way they were going to let him go with just a warning. Now, we have to look at every side of this story, including that Luis is about to play again, and he is more comfortable now, we hope it's possible," the executive member explained.
Suarez has started playing friendly matches with Barcelona B, and has been called up for Uruguay's friendly matches to be held in October.
