The MTN 8 is a South African football cup competition. It is held at the end of the Premiership Division season and is contested by the top-eight clubs in the country’s top flight. The first-placed team faces the eighth-placed side in the first stage, the club in second faces the one that finishes seventh, the one in third locks horns with the one in sixth, and the fourth and fifth-placed outfits battle it out. The MTN 8 was founded in 1972, with Orlando Pirates winning the first two titles.
