About Coppa Italia Primavera

The Coppa Italia Primavera is a competition played by youth teams from the Campionato Primavera. It was founded in 1972 and is run by the Italian Football Federation (Italian: Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio; FIGC). All players that feature in the competition are under the age of 20.

Forty teams compete in the Coppa Italia Primavera. Thirty-two (32) teams contest the first qualifying round of the preliminary stage. This comprises of eight teams from the Campionato Primavera 1 and 24 teams from the Campionato Primavera 2. All the matches in this round operate with the single-elimination format.

The second qualifying round features the 16 winners from the first qualifying round. The teams are paired together, and the winners progress to the knockout stages. It begins with the Round of 16. The remaining eight teams from the Campionato Primavera 1 join in at this point.

The quarterfinals, semifinals and final follow the Round of 16, respectively. It is important to note that only the semifinals of the Coppa Italia Primavera are played in a round-trip (home and away).

The champions of the Coppa Italia Primavera are eligible to play in the Supercoppa Primavera of the following season.
