About
ZDFinfo history, coverage, features
ZDF Info is a German television channel, owned and operated by ZDF. It was launched on August 27, 1997 as ZDF Infokanal, but it would be rebranded as ZDF Info on September 5, 2011.
ZDF Info has mostly focused on broadcasting documentaries, magazine shows, and information programs. One of the most followed stories covered by this channel had to do with Michael Jackson’s death and his funeral back in 2009. ZDF Info also covered in detailed fashion the events surrounding the Egyptian revolution and the earthquake that hit Japan, both of those events taking place in 2011.
Speaking about sports, ZDF Info has served as an overflow channel to cover events such as the Olympic Games, the FIFA World Cup, and the UEFA European Championship, especially when two games were taking place at the same time. Other events covered by this channel include the FINA World Championships, the European Aquatics Championships, and the World Equestrian Games.
ZDF is available on SD since its launch, but an HD feed was made available for all users on April 30, 2012. Initially, ZDF Info’s HD feed was downscaled due to the channel’s lack of capacity to carry a full HD mode. In May 2015, the full HD feed was made available to all users.
Added to its availability in Germany, ZDF Info may also be tuned in on other European channels such as Austria or Switzerland.
