About
TVR 2 history, coverage, features
TVR 2 is a Romanian television channel owned and operated by the Romanian Television Society, the Romanian public television system. TVR 2 became the second TV channel to see the light in this country on May 2, 1968 under the name Program 2, which lasted until its shutdown in 1985. After a five-year hiatus, the channel was relaunched under the name TVR 2 on February 19, 1990.
Over the years, TVR 2 has been known as an entertainment channel, with music shows, TV series, news broadcasts, children’s programming, animated movies, religion, science, sports, and educational shows being aired on this channel. Most of the shows aired on this channel have been broadcast in Romanian language, although some international shows may be available in their native tongue.
Speaking about sports, TVR 2 has been known for being used as an overflow channel when TVR 1 is not available to cover live events to which they have broadcasting rights live. Some of the disciplines covered on this channel over the years have included football and rugby. When it comes to football, TVR 2 has aired content related to the Romanian football team and has also covered different editions of the FIFA World Cup.
TVR 2 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed saw the light on November 3, 2019. A downscaled version of the HD feed might be available for users who do not have access to HD technology. Added to its availability in Romania, TVR 2 may also be seen in countries such as Moldova or Hungary.
