Telemax history, coverage, features
Telemax is a Mexican television channel that broadcasts its content in the state of Sonora. The channel is operated by Televisora de Hermosillo, which is owned by the Government of Sonora. The channel was launched on May 30, 1959, as Canal 6, but it would eventually be rebranded to Canal 6 in 2015. The channel was initially owned by Televisa, but that changed in 1984 when the TV company sold the channel to the local government.
Over the years, Telemax has aired content to satisfy the needs of their Sonora-based audience. During the week, the channel has relied on airing news broadcasts, along with magazine shows, health shows, and local sports shows. During the weekend, Telemax has focused on educational programming, in-house productions to promote the state’s tourism, and even Sunday masses.
Speaking about sports, Telemax has focused on offering coverage for football and baseball games, with local teams Yaquis de Ciudad Obregón (Liga Mexicana del Pacífico) and Cimarrones de Sonora (Liga de Expansión) attracting much of the fans’ attention. Additional coverage might include highlights shows almost every day of the week.
Telemax’s broadcasts were launched in SD format back in the 1950s, but a High Definition feed was made available for all its users in 2015. A downscaled version of this feed is available for those users who have not been able to switch to HD.
