About SVT 2
SVT2 is a Swedish television channel that is owned and operated by Sveriges Television. It was launched on December 5, 1969 under the name TV2, a name that would be kept until 1996, when it was rebranded to SVT2. For many years it was considered as the most watched television channel in the country.
SVT2 has been labeled as a general entertainment channel, but over the years it has turned into a specialty television network, leaving mainstream entertainment for its sister channel, SVT1. Some of the content aired on this channel has been created in languages such as Sami, Finnish, and in Sign Language. Other programs, mainly those that have been acquired by the network, are usually aired in their original language but with Swedish subtitles. Cultural shows, documentaries, independent films, TV series, and sports broadcasts have dominated the channel’s grid in recent years.
Speaking about sports, SVT2 has covered events regarding disciplines such as ice hockey, football, basketball, cycling, athletics, and winter sports. Most of the sports events aired on this channel are repeat broadcasts for shows previously aired by SVT1 or its other sister channels.
Football coverage on SVT2 has included games for the top Swedish football league, the Allsvenskan, as well as games for the Swedish National Team.
SVT2 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but the network became a full HD channel on September 20, 2010. Downscaled versions of this channel might be available in some regions.
