Star TV history, coverage, features
Star TV is a Turkish television channel owned and operated by the Doğuş Media Group. It was launched on March 1, 1989 as Magic Box. In 1992, the channel would change its name to InterStar, a name that would last until 2002, when it was rebranded to Star TV. It has been one of the most popular television channels in Turkey since its launch.
Over the years, Star TV has been known as a general entertainment channel. The network has aired TV series, magazine shows, movies, lifestyle shows, news broadcasts, sports, and music shows. Star TV made a name for itself for airing some of the most popular American TV series of all time, such as Magnum, P.I, or Miami Vice.
Speaking about sports, the channel has been known for airing UEFA Champions League matches.
Star TV was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was developed and eventually launched on May 29, 2009. It became the second HD channel in Turkey. Both feeds are still available to watch within the country, although some TV carriers may choose to provide only one of them.
