Sport 2 Hungary history, coverage, features
Sport 2 is a Hungarian television channel owned and operated by American company AMC Networks International. The channel was launched on September 12, 2004 as an overflow channel to Sport 1, but it was granted its own kind of programming shortly after its launch.
Over the years, Sport 2 Hungary has been known for airing some of the most relevant sports events in Hungary and in the world. The channel, along with its sister network Sport 2, have aired disciplines such as basketball, boxing, hockey, handball, darts, football, poker, tennis, and more. Added to live events, Sport 2 has also included debate shows and highlights programs to add depth to its sports coverage.
Speaking about football, Sport 2 has covered live events for leagues such as the Portuguese top-flight, the German Bundesliga, and the Turkish Super Lig. Other domestic tournaments that have been covered on this channel include the DFB-Pokal and the FA Cup, and when it comes to international club competitions, the channel has provided live coverage to UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches. National team football has also been available on this channel, with UEFA and FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches being aired on this channel over the years.
Sport 2 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was made available to the public on January 3, 2014. Both feeds may still be available in the country via several pay-tv carriers. Sport 2 may also be tuned in on neighbor countries such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Romania, although their content may differ from the Hungarian version.
