About Societe Radio-Canada
The Societé Radio-Canada is Canada’s oldest broadcasting service in French, which compliments the English offer for the country provided by CBC. It was launched back in 1952, and its headquarters are located in Montreal. As a Crown Corporation, the SRC operates independently from the government despite being a public channel.
SRC’s channels underwent some changes between 2013 and 2014, when all channels and radio stations changed their name an image for uniformity purposes. The French-language network is now known as ICI Radio-Canada Tele, while the English-speaking channel is called CBC Television.
Societé Radio-Canada’s programming includes news shows, entertainment programs featuring sitcoms and reality shows, sports broadcasts and documentaries. SRC is considered to be far more popular than its English counterpart, mainly due to the low number of French-speaking channels available in Canada compared to the English-language channel offering.
When it comes to sports, SRC has aired ice hockey matches and Canadian Football League games. Furthermore, SRC aired the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in its entirety both on TV and on their website.
Both SRC and CBC broadcast their shows in HD.
