About
ERT 2 history, coverage, features
ERT 2 is a Greek television channel owned and operated by ERT, a state-funded television company from that country. The channel was launched on February 27, 1966 under the name ERT 2, but it would be rebranded to ET 2 from 1987 to 1997. After that, it would be known as NET until 2013, when the channel was shut down by the government. Eventually, the channel would be relaunched on June 11, 2015 under its current name. It is frequently referred to as the second most relevant channel for the Greek broadcasting company that owns it.
Over the years, and especially after its relaunch, ERT 2 has been known for its general entertainment approach to making television. The channel has aired current affairs programs, children’s shows, sports events, talk shows, documentaries, and more. While most of the content aired on this channel has been produced in Greece, there are other shows such as movies and TV series that have been produced abroad.
Speaking about sports, the channel has covered a wide variety of disciplines, especially those who have to do with Greek teams or athletes. ERT 2 usually does not air live sports events since those duties fall on ERT Sports, one of its sister channels, but it has covered some of the top competitions taking place in the world, such as the UEFA Euro, the 2016 Olympic Games, and the FIFA World Cup, among other top-notch competitions.
ERT 2 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was launched to improve the viewer’s experience on December 1, 2020. Both feeds may still be available on most regions of the Greek nation.
