Open TV History, Coverage, Features
Open TV is a Greek television channel owned and operated by Radiotelevision S.A., a subsidiary of Dimera Media Investments. The channel was originally launched in 1990, when it was known as 902 TV. That name would last until 2013, when it became known as Epsilon TV. After five years, the channel was sold to its current owners and had its name changed to Open TV. The channel’s official launch came on September 17, 2018.
Over the years, Open TV has been known as a general entertainment channel. The network has featured a variety of topics such as news broadcasts, Greek TV series, foreign TV series, movies, and sports. While most of the content aired on Open TV gets to its audience in Greek language, some of the shows produced abroad may be available in their original language.
Speaking about sports, Open TV has focused on airing football competitions and motorsports events as live broadcasts. Added to that, sports highlights have been made available for all Greek fans via several sports debate shows aired by the channel over the years. Football events covered by the channel have often included games for the Greek National Team, especially FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro Qualifiers.
Open TV was launched as a Standard Definition channel back in the days when it was known as 902 TV, but a HD feed was developed and launched when the channel changed to its name to Open TV. Users might be able to tune into a downscaled version of the channel if they do not have access to HD technology where they live. Added to the channel’s availability in Greece, the channel may be available in some regions of Cyprus.
