About
ČT Sport history, coverage, features
CT Sport is a public sports channel from the Czech Republic. The channel is owned and operated by Česká televize, who launched the channel on February 10, 2006 under the name CT4 Sport. A couple of years later, the channel would be rebranded simply to CT4, and in September 2012, it would be renamed once again, this time to CT Sport. CT Sport became the first public sports television channel in Europe.
Since its launch, CT Sport has focused its activity on covering Czech sports events or competitions where Czech athletes are involved. Football, golf, ice hockey, athletics, and other disciplines have been included in the channel’s regular programming, although additional coverage that has nothing to do with those sports may be available from time to time.
Speaking about football, CT Sport has covered events where the Czech Republic has been involved, including the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Euro, or the World Cup and UEFA Euro Qualifiers. Additional coverage of these games may also feature game previews and post-match coverage, while also adding highlights on the channel’s sports news shows.
CT Sport was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was developed and officially launched on May 3, 2012. Since the channel is available on the Czech digital broadcasting television system, the HD feed has been made available in most of the country’s territory, although the SD option may still be watched in certain regions of the country.
