Its content may also be available on BBC’s iPlayer for over a month after its initial broadcast.
BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra is a digital radio station which extends the sports coverage aired by BBC Radio 5 Live. All facilities, presenters and management are shared by both radio stations.
Unlike its sister radio network, Radio 5 Live Sports Extra is only available on digital radio, television platforms and online. It does not feature on traditional radio or via international streaming.
Since BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra covers overflow sports content, the station has made a name for itself covering Major League Baseball games, Formula One motor racing, Grand Slam tour coverage, National Hockey League matches, cricket tournaments and NFL games. Added to that, BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra covers Premier League games that overlap with BBC Radio 5 Live’s coverage, as well as international games featuring UK teams.
BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra stands out for one specific reason: it is one of a few BBC stations that stands as a part-time service, unlike many other stations that work 24/7.
