The station is used by the BBC exclusively for live sports commentary. The BBC owns the radio rights for a whole host of sporting events, including Wimbledon, England cricket matches, and the Formula One World Championship.
In terms of football, live Premier League match commentary has been broadcast on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra for a number of years. First choice matches are broadcast on BBC Radio 5 Live, meaning Sports Extra gets overlap coverage.
