Preview: Spotlight on Suarez at the Bridge, following biting incident
Dejection reigns in the camp of the Merseyside Reds who were the victims of questionable officiating in Thursday’s super match away to Manchester City. Sterling was wrongly called off for offside while Luis Suarez had a genuine penalty appeal turned down.
The visitors ended up losing the game 2-1, consequently conceding the first spot to Arsenal. This came much to the fury of Brendan Rodgers who interrogated the honesty of the English FA.
Liverpool are expected to react on the field and Luis Suarez is the man shouldering the hopes of millions of fans worldwide. The last time the striker faced Chelsea, something infamous occurred: the Uruguayan literally went on to bite Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.
This time round, Suarez could hurt the Blues with a top notch performance. This is what ex-Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho fears most. He shared the following joke in the build up to the game:
“Maybe Suarez (against Manchester City) got a little injury. I'm not asking for a big injury. A little injury to stop him playing for four days.”
Meanwhile, the Blues have a dilemma with forwards Eto’o, Demba Ba and Torres scoring only five goals between them. In contrast, Luis Suarez already has 19 goals to his name in only 13 Premier League appearances. It is as though he did not miss the start of the season through suspension (for biting Chelsea’s Ivanovic).
Chelsea might employ negative tactics, knowing that a draw would keep them above Liverpool in the EPL table. Regardless of this possibility, spectators should expect a great match.
