The stage has been set for the 2013/14 Champions League as Franck Ribery claimed the Player of the Year award.

The 2013/14 Champions League Group Stage draw provided football fans with a number of very exciting matches.

Current champions Bayern Munich find themselves in Group D along with CSKA Moscow, Manchester City and Viktoria Plzen. Pep Guardiola's side should make it out of the group, but a meeting with Pellegrini's City will be a much anticipated match.

Group F and Group H will likely get the most attention, given the amount of talent in both.

Arsenal finds themselves in a group with Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and Marseille. The Gunners have yet to spend any money on transfers, which will not sit well with their fans heading into this very tough group.

Meanwhile for Celtic's Neil Lennon, he had asked to get Real Madrid, but instead got grouped with Barcelona once again. The Scottish side will have a tough challenge ahead of them against the Blaugrana, as well as Ajax and AC Milan.

Ribery claims the UEFA Player of the Year Award

The Bayern Munich winger took home the award, making him the first non La Liga footballer to claim the title. While many football fans disagree with the decision, all of that does not matter to the French international.

His performances throughout the 2012/13 campaign for Bayern Munich help lead his club to the treble.

Ribery's stats may not look as great as those of Ronaldo or Messi, but his contribution with 16 goals and 23 assists across all competitions was good enough to earn him the award.

One person who will likely disagree with that is Cristiano Ronaldo, who chose not to attend the event, after missing out on the title last season.

Having lost out on the award to Andres Iniesta, the Real Madrid forward chose not to travel to Monaco, opting to play in Real Madrid's friendly match against Deportivo La Coruna on Thursday evening.
