Verratti in doubt for EURO competition

PSG star a major doubt for EURO tournament due to knee injury

May 11, 2021 By Michelle Bonsu
Italian international Marco Verratti could end up missing this summer's EURO tournament due to a knee injury.

Seems like Marco Verratti can't catch a break this season.

The Italian international has struggled with injuries this term, and also recently recovered from a bout of COVID-19. All in all, Verratti has been restricted to just 31 appearances for PSG across all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino's side, and now he's been dealt another major blow as he recently missed PSG's draw with Rennes on Sunday.

The former Pescara man sustained a knee injury during training last week and now reportedly is set to miss up to six weeks of action. That means that his featuring for Italy at this summer's EURO competition is at major risk, which is naturally a huge worry for the Azzurri as they hope to make a major splash following missing out at the 2018 World Cup.

Meanwhile, PSG, who are second in Ligue 1, are also in danger of missing out on some key trophies this season. They'll need to see off Montpellier in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France in order to book a spot in this season's final. And after crashing out in the Champions League, they will need to find a way to close the gap on Lille, who are presently on top of the Ligue 1 table by three points with just three games to go.
