Both players were charged by the English football's governing body this Monday. Chelsea will have 24 hours to respond to the charges, while Arsenal may answer until Thursday.

It seems that Diego Costa will not escape justice. The Football Association revealed today that the Spanish striker will be charged with "violent conduct" after his performance against Arsenal last Saturday, being involved in a number of arguments with the Gunners' defense. The former Atletico Madrid man was key to have Gabriel Paulista sent off, once the couple got into a heated argument before the first half of the match ended.

According to the FA, Costa's actions were not seen by referee Mike Dean, but having all of his antics on video tape might hand the striker a lenghty ban. Prior to the incident that had Gabriel sent off, Costa was able to hit Laurent Koscielny in the face, sparking criticism by fans and experts.

On the other hand, Arsenal have already appealed to the three-match ban the FA handed Gabriel. The team implied that the center back was wrongfully sent off, and they will try to have the ban cut short before Thursday, when The Gunners enter the evidence to help Paulista.

Diego Costa, a history of violence

This is not the first time Diego Costa is involved in a controversy such as this one. The player had a heated argument with Pablo Zabaleta last year, during the first match of the season against Manchester City. Despite having his hands rounding the Argentine's throat, Costa escaped punishment and eventually had Zabaleta sent off.

As the season came to a close, Costa's behaviour had him banned for three games, following an investigation from the FA after he "accidentally" stepped on Martin Skrtel's foot while playing a Capital One Cup match against Liverpool.

Costa could be banned for up to three games, since that was the punishment he had to accept following his antics against the Reds last season. If the Spaniard ends up being banned for three games, he would end up missing the games against Walsall, Newcastle United and Southampton.
