With their win against Alavés yesterday, the league leaders matched the best start of a season by any Barcelona team. That record was set not so long ago by the squad led by none other than Pep Guardiola.

The never-ending battle between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo had one more chapter written on Sunday, thanks to Messi's game-winning goal via a free kick.
