The Portuguese right back will battle for a spot in the starting lineup against Aleix Vidal and Sergi Roberto.

Via their official website and Twitter feed, FC Barcelona has confirmed the signing of Portuguese right back Nelson Semedo. The 23-year old International will sign his new deal with Los Blaugranas following a medical examination, which will be held on Friday.

Semedo recently played for Portugal in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, and was a key member for Benfica in the most recent seasons, performing in 63 games with three goals to his name.

Sources close to the negotiation revealed that Barcelona will have to pay Benfica around €30M for the player's services, adding €5M in variables.

These numbers make Semedo the second most expensive defender ever bought by Barcelona, with Dani Alves holding the top spot. The 23-year old will become the 9th Portuguese player to defend Barcelona's jersey.
