Team news – Zidane to make do without key players

Media attention has been focused on the recent injury to Lionel Messi that Real Madrid’s very own battle with fitness issues has almost gone under the radar.

Zinedine Zidane’s boys, on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw with Villarreal which denied them a chance of setting a new league record for most consecutive wins, will have to make do without Casemiro and Marcelo for a few weeks.

The Brazilian picked up a knock during the 2-0 victory over Espanyol, but further tests showed it was fracture to his left fibula. As a result, the 24-year-old is expected to spend three weeks on the sidelines.

His compatriot Marcelo, having limped off the pitch in Wednesday’s draw with a calf injury, is also out. Regardless, Zidane insisted that his side will stick with their plan for the game.

“We won’t play differently without Casemiro, our idea remains the same,” said the Frenchman, as per Eurosport.

“Something might change due to the skills of another player but the idea and the plan remains the same.

“We are missing important players but we have others in attack and defensive and we will be prepared for every game."

It wasn't all bad news for Real Madrid, as Zidane revealed Keylor Navas will be returning to the squad.

“Keylor will enter the squad for the game against Las Palmas. Coentrao has trained normally and could be on the list too.”
