After single-handedly guiding Real Madrid into this season’s Champions League semi-final, Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo made Benfica and the fans of the Primera Liga giants happy with a post-match remark.
After scoring three past Wolfsburg to secure a spot in the last 4, the three-time Ballon d’Or winner admitted that he would love to see the Eagles eliminate Bayern Munich and join Los Blancos in the semis.
The 31-year-old spoke of his desire to draw Rui Vitoria’s crew in the next stage, as the former Manchester United winger is eager to return to his home country.
"I would like to face Benfica in the semi finals, said Cristiano, as per Marca.
"Hopefully on Wednesday against Bayern they can get through, I would like to play in Portugal."
Benfica later thanked Cristiano and called his “pure class” in a post on their official Facebook page ahead of their clash with Pep Guardiola’s crew.
"Thank you for the support CR7, this is pure class," Benfica wrote on Facebook.
Should the Eagles eliminate the Bundesliga giants, meaning overturning the 1-0 deficit from the 1st leg, the Portuguese club will still have to undergo Friday’s draw before the semi-final match-ups are decided.
Of course, should Benfica progress to the next stage and draw the 10-time Champions League winners, Los Blancos will be returning to the very same ground where the beat Atletico 4-1 in the final en route to La Decima.
