His goal in the 11th minute gave Chelsea an early lead. It was back in January against Swansea when he had scored for a last time.

After seven scoreless games for Diego Costa, Chelsea’s striker found the back of the net in the eleventh minute of the game against Southampton. The Spanish international had not scored since this past January in a match against Swansea where he had netted the ball twice.

Costa is now back as the English Premier League leading scorer with 18 goals. Sergio Aguero had recently joined him at the top of the chart but is now relegated to second place. The EPL Player of the Month Harry Kane is in third.

Costa came from Atletico Madrid with just that, the tag of a fearless striker that captivated fans in the Premier League for the first half of the season. Scoring after a seven-game drought might be what he and the Blues needed moving forward.

His goal was not enough to win the game for Chelsea. His header from outside the six-yard box did give the team an early lead. Southampton responded before going into halftime from the spot by Tadic. Thibaut Courtois was close to making the big save.

Costa’s goal may have come a game-late for Chelsea as they really needed it in their game against Paris Saint Germain earlier this week. Now, it helped Jose Mourinho’s team get a six-point lead over Manchester City in the EPL table.
