Wayne Rooney recently released on Facebook a video of his training-session. The English striker brought two fitness-coaches with him on holiday to the Algarve, to start training early for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.

Manchester United’s skipper stated on the social media:

“Training is going well, looking forward to meeting up with the England squad and getting started.”

Meanwhile, Daniel Sturridge decided to relax in Miami with his girlfriend, despite Roy Hodgson warning players against long-haul flights. England’s manager announced:

“'My advice will be if you are going to go away with your family, keep it much closer to home and avoid the very, very long journeys.”

As to Rooney’s decision to anticipate training, Hodgson declared:

“Wayne is so determined to be up and running when we get there on the 19th. Wayne’s attitude is that he’s desperate to be up and running on the 19th. I’m not as desperate, I’m thinking more of June 14, but it’s still quite laudable.”

England's first and only World Cup title, won at home over 40 years ago

England’s attacker has always been deprived of a meaningful participation to the World Cup due to injury. In 2006, Rooney suffered a metatarsal injury, which prevented him from helping England’s progress. During the 2010 World Cup, the Englishman received a knock on his ankle, which prevented him from contributing to his team’s cause in South Africa.

This time however, Wayne Rooney seems highly motivated to be ready and fit when he lands in Brazil. The 28-year-old said:

"Previously I have always been going into the first game looking for fitness […] This time, I honestly feel good. I will be ready. I'm looking forward to it.”
