Matchday 16 in Major League Soccer is here, with Eastern Conference leaders Inter Miami taking to the pitch in one of four simultaneous kick-offs. The Herons travel to BC Place to face Western Conference outfit the Vancouver Whitecaps in an interesting 10:30 p.m. encounter.

Tata Martino's men enter this fixture with one goal in mind: to beat the Vancouver Whitecaps to maintain their Supporters' Shield title challenge. Messi and Co. are currently leading that race, but only by a slim margin, sitting a single point ahead of Cincinnati.

Cincinnati are hot on Inter Miami's tails in the Eastern Conference as well, though third-placed New York City FC are eight points behind the leaders. However, the Herons have played a game extra over both sides and could thus lose the top spot when The Orange and Blue play their game in hand.

Fortunately, the visitors are in a rich vein of form, winning all but one of their last seven domestic matches. That one slip-up was a goalless draw away to fellow Florida franchise Orlando City earlier this month.

While Martino's men struggle to keep clean sheets, boasting the second-worst defense of any side sitting in the top 10 of the Supporters' Shield race, they are the most free-scoring club in Major League Soccer.

With 36 goals to their name, no team has scored more often than Inter Miami this term. The Floride franchise put six past the New York Red Bulls, four past New England, three past Montreal, and netted six combined goals in back-to-back matches against Sporting KC and Nashville. Will the Vancouver Whitecaps become their latest victims?

Unlike Inter Miami, the Blue and White are mid-table in the Supporters' Shield race, sitting in 14th. The hosts are seventh in the Western Conference but are dangerously close to dropping into the playoffs spot, with Houston Dynamo and St. Louis hot on their heels.

Form also does not favor the home side, having lost three out of their last four matches. The Vancouver Whitecaps are winless in their last four games across all competitions and are winless in their last five in Major League Soccer alone.

Vanni Sartini's side had started the campaign strong, winning five of their first eight games of the campaign. Additionally, the Canadian-based club scored in every single fixture, including their two defeats and opening day draw.

Since then, the Blue and White have scored only two times in the subsequent five matches. However, the Vancouver Whitecaps should take confidence from their home record against clubs from Florida.

While these two sides have never met previously, the Western Conference outfit have locked horns with teams from Florida before and are yet to lose a home match against those sides. Will that record come to an end on Saturday?

Team news

Vancouver Whitecaps: Sam Adekugbe is dealing with a calf issue while Damir Kreilach is out with an ankle injury. However, Bjorn Inge Utvik is back from suspension.

Inter Miami: Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets all appear set to miss this tie, which has sparked frustration from the Vancouver Whitecaps after selling a record number of tickets to fans keen on seeing the former Barcelona trio. Robbie Robinson, Facundo Farias, and Federico Redondo are all sidelined while this game comes too soon for Ian Fray.

Key stats
