Barcelona kept their five-point lead at the top of the table, making Valencia's, Atlético's and Real Madrid's victories as futile.

This weekend's action in the Spanish top flight left a number of talking points for fans and experts.

With one game left to be played, and which will not have an effect on the title race, we can look back at those numbers that will give fans a chance to look back at this weekend fondly.

Atlético Madrid's defensive power under Simeone has been well-documented since the Argentine took over as coach in 2011, but the balance shown by his squad is something worth of praise. Later on Sunday, Athletic's striker Aritz Aduriz earned himself quite an honor, as the Basque striker showed he's aging just like wine with his performance against Levante, which ended a winless run for Los Leones.

And then, the moment came for Lionel Messi to lead Barcelona to one more victory in the Spanish top flight. "La Pulga" scored the game's second goal against Villarreal, and managed to earn himself a piece of history in European football.
