The two clashed in the FA Cup tie between Everton and Chelsea, with the Spaniard appearing to bite the Englishman on the neck.

Chelsea were sent crashing out of the FA Cup, their only remaining shot at silverware this season, after their tie with Everton on Saturday; however, the post-match talk was dominated by Diego Costa and his clash with Gareth Barry.

The Spaniard crossed paths with the English midfielder after a first-half tackle on the Toffees ace left the former Atletico Madrid man with his first yellow card of the game.

However, the drama came in the 2nd half, with Costa being sent off by referee Michael Oliver after he appeared to bite the Everton midfielder.

Now, though, Gareth Barry – he also got his marching orders shortly after Diego Costa – has publicly come out to clear the air, insisting that the Chelsea superstar striker did not bite him.

Taking to social media app Fanzai, Gareth Barry posted (as per the Mirror): "Seen a lot of talk about the incident involving me and Diego Costa in the game last night. For the record he did not bite me."

This comes after a spokesperson of the London giants stated (as per the Guardian) that the Spaniard pled the innocence to the club in the aftermath of the 2-0 loss.

“Diego spoke to club officials after the game and expressed regret over his reaction to the challenge from Gareth Barry that led to his red card, but Diego was also very clear that he did not bite him at any point during that altercation.”

It will be interesting to see what punishment (if any) the Spaniard will get after the FA said to be aware of the incident in Saturday’s FA Cup last 8 encounter.
