Man United boss has revealed the latest injury news from Old Trafford.

Manchester United manager Luis Van Gaal has told MUTV that England international Ashley Young is set to undergo surgery and will stay out of action for the club for ''a very long time.’’

The former Aston Villa man limped off in the first half during Man United’s 1-0 win over Liverpool last weekend.

The English giants confirmed the unfortunate news through their official twitter handle:

The Red Devils will also miss the services of midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and defender Phil Jones who are both injured:

Speaking about the prospects of signing new players before the end of the January transfer window, the Dutch tactician responded:

''We are looking, but it is not that easy. Clubs do not want to sell.''

When asked whether Man United were comfortable with the current crop of players, he explained:

“No, that is not true, I think when you see how unlucky we have been in the full-back position. I have started with Valencia, Shaw, Rojo, Darmian and Young, sometimes, and they are all injured - only Darmian is now back. So, I need full-backs and you have seen how I have used youngsters like Borthwick-Jackson and Varela who are doing great but the level of Manchester United is high."

About Wayne Rooney's recent good form for the club, the former Bayern Munich boss added:

''I have always said he is important, not only as a player but as a captain. So I'm very happy with him.''

Luis Van Gaal's men face Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday in a match they have to win in order to pile more pressure on the top four teams on the log.
