Borussia Dortmund lost the Revierderby to Schalke 04, 1-2. Jürgen Klopp decided to start his captain and trusted central defender, Mats Hummels. However, Hummels’ lack of match practice was evident. The Dortmund back four looked shaky; Schalke were the deserved winners of the match. The result left Dortmund in a deep whole; they have already fallen far behind Bayern. The title is seemingly already escaping their grasp. They seemed only too happy to substitute the pressures of the Bundesliga for the cauldron of the UEFA Champions League in midweek. They played Anderlecht away from home. The match was far from easy, despite the 0-3 score line.
An early goal from Ciro Immobile helped to settle the nerves. He controlled a pass from Shinji Kagawa and slotted the ball into the back of the net. Immobile is seemingly starting to fill the large shoes of the former BVB striker, Robert Lewandowski. Dortmund fans had to endure a nervous wait for the second goal; it came from substitute Adrian Ramos. Ramos got at the end of a wonderful cross from Lukasz Piszczek. He scored the third goal too. BVB is one of only three teams to have the full complement of points after the first two match days in the UEFA Champions League.
Their next opponent in the league is Hamburger SV, a side which beat them twice last season. HSV comes into the match in the same sorry state in which they entered last season’s encounters. They took on Eintracht Frankfurt during the previous weekend. Frankfurt took the lead but HSV fought back to 1-1. Nicolai Müller scored HSV’s first goal of the season. All their hard work was undone in the 89th minute when Lucas Piazon hit the back of the net from a free kick. HSV will hope that they can beat BVB again.
Although for very different reasons, both teams need the points. Who will win this match? Interested in learning how you can watch the 2014-15 Bundesliga? Check out our Bundesliga Multi-Platform Broadcast Guide.
