Mark Clattenburg has been selected to officiate the Euro 2016 final match between France and Portugal

English referee Mark Clattenburg has been selected to officiate the Euro 2016 final match between France and Portugal on July 10 at the Stade de France. Clattenburg was selected following Wales’ exit from the competition in the semi-finals against Portugal. Had Wales qualified, the 41-year-old would not have been selected based on the fact that he is a British referee and Wales is also British country.

The renowned referee has had a busy year so far, having officiated the English Premier League, the FA Cup final and the Champions League final. At the Euro 2016, he has officiated three matches so far; Belgium vs Italy, Croatia vs Czech Republic and Switzerland vs Poland. Here is a breakdown of his performance in these three games in France:

The experienced referee quite often finds himself at the center of controversy in big matches but judging from his most recent record since the FA Cup final, fans of France and Portugal should expect a balanced game. Clattenburg has issued an average of four yellow cards in every game he has officiated in this tournament, but no red card. Judging from the fact that Sunday’s clash is a final, the widely-traveled referee is expected to keep his hands off his pockets unless something out of the ordinary happens. But as for yellow cards, he could dish them out in plenty - as usual.
