Superliga geschiedenis, opzet, organisatie, media-aandacht
De Kategoria Superiore is de hoogste klasse van het mannenvoetbal in Albanië. Opgericht in 1930 als het Albanees Nationaal Kampioenschap, werd het in 2003 omgedoopt tot de Kategoria Superiore en sinds 2021 staat het ook bekend als de Abissnet Superiore vanwege sponsorredenen. Het wordt georganiseerd door de Albanese Voetbalfederatie (FSHF).
Elk seizoen loopt doorgaans van augustus tot mei van het volgende jaar, waarbij elk team vier keer tegen elkaar speelt (twee keer thuis en twee keer uit). De Kategoria Superiore werkt met een degradatie-promotiesysteem, waarbij de slechtst presterende teams degraderen naar de Kategoria e Parë (Tweede Divisie). De winnaar van de Kategoria Superiore krijgt toegang tot de eerste kwalificatieronde van de UEFA Champions League, terwijl de tweede en derde geplaatste teams toegang krijgen tot de eerste kwalificatieronde van de UEFA Europa Conference League.
Tirana is de meest succesvolle club in de geschiedenis van de competitie, terwijl andere teams zoals Dinamo Tirana, Partizani, Vllaznia en Skënderbeu meerdere titels hebben gewonnen.
De Kategoria Superiore werd tot juni 2023 uitgezonden door Over Sport, toen de Albanese Voetbalfederatie besloot een driejarige tv-uitzendingsovereenkomst te sluiten met MCN TV. MCN TV heeft nu de exclusieve tv- en livestreamrechten in Albanië voor de Kategoria Superiore, evenals voor de Tweede Divisie, de Albanese Beker en de Albanese Supercup.
