UPDATE: In June 2025, it was reported that Optus Sport agreed to transfer their English Premier League and FA Cup broadcast rights, along with the remainder of its media rights portfolio, to Nine Entertainment and Stan. The deal was alledgedly worth $300 million, including an upfront $20 million fee from Stan.More about Optus Sport below:
Optus Sport was a group of Australian sports channels owned and operated by the telecommunications company Optus. Founded in 2016, Optus Sport was available through a streaming service of the same name, which offers both a free account and a paid subscription, with most of the broadcaster's content locked behind the latter.
The broadcaster operated eleven multiplex channels, with Optus Sport 1 serving as the primary channel, while Optus Sport 2 to 11 functioned as overflow platforms. The streaming service was available in both 720p HD and full HD (1080p).
Optus Sport was established in July 2016 after Optus acquired exclusive Premier League broadcast rights in Australia for the 2016-17 to 2018-19 cycle, replacing Foxtel. Prior to this, Optus had begun trialing its own content delivery network.
The platform’s initial Premier League coverage began on Fetch TV under the name “Yes TV.” In addition, the broadcaster sub-licensed one English top-flight match per round to the free-to-air channel SBS in exchange for access to SBS's 2018 FIFA World Cup rights.
Optus later secured a deal with Nine Network to co-broadcast the 2016 International Champions Cup, marking Manchester United’s 4-1 loss to Dortmund in Shanghai on July 22, 2016, as the platform’s first live sports broadcast.
The Premier League, FA Cup, Women’s Super League, NWSL, UEFA Champions League, La Liga, FIFA World Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Copa America, UEFA European Championship, and more have all been featured on the platform over the years.
Optus Sport was accessible via most internet-connected devices and select set-top boxes.
