WRAL-TV 5 history, coverage, features
WRAL-TV is a regional US TV station affiliated to the NBC network and licensed to Raleigh, North Carolina. The English-language channel first aired on December 15, 1956 and it has been owned by Capitol Broadcasting Inc. since its inception. Radio channels WCMC-FM, WRAL-FM and TV channel WRAZ are sister stations of WRAL-TV.
WRAL-TV serves the famous Triangle region of North Carolina (Raleigh–Durham–Chapel Hill–Fayetteville). It is available on digital channel 17 (UHF) and virtual channel 5 (PSIP). The station is available on channel 3 with most cable providers in the majority of the Triangle region and on channel 5 in the remaining areas.
WRAL-TV’s content may be streamed live on NBC’s OTT platform, which also comes with multi-platform apps for smartphones, tablets and smart TVs. Users may however need to authenticate themselves through their accounts with participating TV providers.
Due to its affiliation with NBC, WRAL-TV may carry sports programming of the network with special focus on local sports sides, including the Carolina Panthers, NC State, UNC, Duke Blue Devils, Carolina Hurricanes and the likes. WRAL-TV famously broadcast the Summer Olympics and the Super Bowl in 2016. The channel has also covered some action from the English Premier League as part of its affiliation with NBC.
