The French footballer seems destined to leave on a free transfer next summer, but their upcoming clash in the continental tournament could change things.

In what turned out to be a fortunate yet unexpected turn of events, the UEFA Champions League draw could give PSG an option to keep Kylian Mbappé around despite Real Madrid's interest.

According to a report by L'Equipe, the French side is ready to offer Mbappé an improved deal to extend his stay at Parc des Princes, mainly due to the fact that he will be allowed to negotiate a deal with the club he desires on January 1.

Mbappé has been coy about his future since an interview where he stated his "adventure in Paris" was about to end. Now, the French club is willing to offer him a six-year deal with a massive wage increase, which would make him the best-paid player in a team with Neymar and Leo Messi included in the squad.

Now, with Real Madrid and Les Parisiens ready to go at it in the UEFA Champions League, the Spanish side may be forced to hold back in their attempt to sign Mbappé as soon as the next year begins, which could give sporting director Leonardo and owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi a chance to twist Mbappé's arm.

This report states that this has become the first real attempt by PSG to keep their star around since August, when they offered him a new deal that would match the wages of Messi and Neymar. Even so, this intention to keep Mbappé around may not be successful, as L'Equipe also hints that the player has already made up his mind and will be joining Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.
