Broadcast Rights

Competitions available on Play Sports 1

Telenet has acquired non-exclusive UEFA Champions League linear and digital rights in Belgium from 2024 to 2027. The pay-TV broadcaster has joint broadcast rights to Champions League matches played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays alongside fellow subscription-based provider Proximus. Telenet subscribers can watch live Champions League games with Dutch-language commentary on the network’s Play Sports TV channel.
Telenet has secured the broadcast rights for the UEFA Conference League in Belgium for the 2024-25, 2025-26, and 2026-27 seasons. As a result, fans in Belgium, particularly in the Flanders region, can watch live UEFA Conference League matches in Dutch on Telenet’s Play Sports channels and its subsidiary network, Play Media.
To watch live Premier League matches in Belgium, fans must have a subscription to Play Sports as the pay-TV network has the exclusive rights to show the EPL in the country until the end of the 2027-28 season. The deal to bring Premier League football to Play Sports was finalised after an agreement between Proximus and Telenet in Belgium.

The deal to bring Premier League football to Play Sports was finalised after an agreement between Proximus and Telenet in Belgium.

In total, 270 Premier League matches are shown on Play Sports each season, with coverage being shared between Play Sports 1 and Play Sports 2. A subscription is needed to watch both of these channels in Belgium, specifically the Pickx Sports option.

Premier League highlights and full replays can also be watched on Play Sports 1 and Play Sports 2, both on the pay-TV channels and their dedicated streaming app. The app is called Play Sports and can be downloaded for free onto iOS and Android devices.

All Premier League matches on Play Sports are broadcast in Dutch and French. This includes live match commentary, post-match interviews and studio analysis.
Cable broadband and TV provider Telenet has secured a distribution deal with DAZN, the exclusive Pro League rights holder in Belgium, covering the Belgian top-flight division. This was announced in May 2026, towards the end of the 2025-26 season, following unsuccessful attempts to strike a distribution deal with Belgium’s major TV providers, an issue that nearly caused DAZN to end its exclusive rights deal prematurely.
Play Sports broadcasts select Bundesliga 2 matches live in Belgium as part of its football offering from the 2025-26 season to 2028-29. Coverage is non-comprehensive and limited to featured fixtures, including the Nordderby and the Hamburg City Derby. Live Bundesliga matches are available through Play Sports TV channels and the Play Sports app.

Telenet is Belgium’s official broadcaster of the Dutch Eredivisie from 2025 to 2030. The commercial network provides linear broadcasts on its Play Sports 1 and Play Sports 2 paid TV channels. Subscribers can also stream select Eredivisie matches, live and on-demand, using the Play Sports app. The Play Sports app, which is compatible with mobiles and tablets (Android and iOS), smart TVs, and computers (PCs and Macs in web browsers), gives fans the option of streaming Eredivisie games on both smaller and larger screens.

Viewers in Belgium can opt for a monthly contract or a day pass to watch and stream Eredivisie matches on Play Sports channels or via the corresponding app. The day pass option offers 24-hour access to all Play Sports channels for fans already subscribed to Telenet TV.

About

Play Sports 1 history, coverage, features

Play Sports is a package of television channels partly owned and operated by the Belgian cable distributor Telenet. It was launched in 2005 as Prime Sport, but it would later be rebranded to Sporting Telenet. The service would go through another rebranding in 2012 when Play Sports was elected by its parent company.

Over the years, Play Sports has turned into a household name for sports coverage in Belgium, thanks to the availability of bundles in most pay-tv companies. Each package comes with different channels, which will be in charge of covering different disciplines. Some of the sports covered by this platform have included football, basketball, golf, motorsport, cyclocross, tennis, hockey, and more.

Play Sports 1 is considered as the package’s flagship channel. It has usually aired the most relevant live event being aired at any given time. Speaking about football, Play Sports 1 has covered leagues such as the English Premier League and the Eredivisie. Added to that, Play Sports 1 has also provided coverage for continental tournaments such as the UEFA Europa League. Additional coverage to live games, such as highlights’ shows, and sports newscasts might also be available on this channel.

Play Sports 1 started airing its content in Standard Definition, but the company managed to transition its entire offer of channels to High-Definition technology in the 2016-17 season. This saw Play Sports becoming the first sports package to make such a transition in Belgium.
