The French giants kick off their European campaign on Tuesday, welcoming Italian heavyweights Juventus to the Parc des Princes.

The UEFA Champions League is finally back! Everyone's favorite European club competition kicks off this midweek, with eight thrilling fixtures set to be held on Tuesday. One match, in particular, stands out and it is a highly-anticipated showdown between two of the continent's biggest powerhouses: PSG and Juventus.

While both are always expected to do great things, the pressure will be on the French giants once again this season after another impressive summer spending spree. The likes of Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha, Hugo Ekitike, Carlos Soler, Renato Sanches, and Nordi Mukiele have been brought to the club as Mbappe and Co. look to end their long wait for European success.

But that is not all that has changed. Gone are Leonardo and Mauricio Pochettino, the sporting director and head coach who oversaw Les Parisiens' embarrassing UEFA Champions League exit last season, with Luis Campos and Christophe Galtier replacing the pair respectively.

So far, the Ligue 1 giants have been unstoppable, winning all but one of their opening six French top-flight, with the one stain being a 1-1 draw at home to Monaco. Their front three of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar – who struggled to gel well together last season – have hit the ground running, with the Brazilian being instrumental so far, scoring seven and assisting six in six outings.

However, their unforgettable UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid in last season's round of 16 will not fade away from memory anytime soon. They conceded three times against Karim Benzema inside 20 minutes and crashed out in utter humiliation, with the Parc des Princes crowd later booing the players in the following games.

Will PSG finally get things right this season? Tuesday's showdown with Juventus could give us a hint to this question as the Old Lady, another continental heavyweight that has struggled in Europe in recent years, look to kick start their campaign with a win.

Unfortunately, while history favors the Bianconeri, having lifted the Ol' Big Ears twice before, form does not back Allegri's men. Yes, the Italian giants are unbeaten this season in Serie A. However, they are yet to impress this term as well.

So far, Vlahovic and Co. have played five times and have triumphed only twice, drawing the other three. Additionally, Juventus have scored only seven times in those five outings, with only two other teams in the top 10 boasting worse figures.

Juventus have failed to make it past the round of 16 in their last three consecutive tournaments and will look to put an end to that poor run. However, only a convincing display against PSG will put to rest the fears that currently trouble the fans.

Team news

PSG: Galtier has little to no concerns heading into this tie, with only Draxler and Pembele being injured. This means that it will be a decision on who to play and who to bench. Neymar, Mbappe, and Messi should lead the line once again; however, there are question marks over the midfield as Vitinha, Renato Sanches, and Danilo are all vying for minutes alongside Verratti. Also, it will be interesting to see whether Keylor Navas gets a rare start in the UEFA Champions League after losing his spot to Donnarumma.

Juventus: Unlike PSG, Allegri has a number of issues to contend with. There were some question marks over Rabiot but the French midfielder has made the trip to Paris. Unfortunately, Chiesa hasn't, while Pogba and Di Maria are sidelined with injuries. Bonucci has been given the nod while Vlahovic is ready to go in the UEFA Champions League once more.

Key stats

  • Juventus have beaten PSG in their last six meetings in a row.

  • In fact, the French giants haven't won a game against the Italian powerhouse in any of their last eight encounters.

  • The Bianconeri's record against French clubs is excellent, with the Old Lady winning all but one of those last 10 encounters in Europe.

  • However, the Ligue 1 giants have lost at home only once in their last 30 UEFA Champions League outings at the Parc des Princes.
