This week features games from England, Germany, Spain, and more.

Plenty of mouth-watering games taking place this weekend, especially over in England and Spain.

Here is all you need to know ahead of another week of women's football.

What to watch in women's football: February 16 to February 18

WSL

Fans are in for a real treat, as the next round of games kicks off on Friday with a top of the table clash. Chelsea, who are the reigning champions, will be traveling to face Manchester City in what could shake things up in the title race. At the moment, the Blues do have a three point lead over their upcoming opponents, but that could change if City pick up a win in Friday's must-see tie.

On Saturday, Arsenal will be looking to once again get back on track when they host Manchester United. The Gunners saw their FA Cup dreams go up in smoke after losing to Manchester City in the fifth round last weekend, and come into their upcoming tie sitting six points behind league leaders Chelsea. However, they just may be able to force their way into the title race if they can pick up a crucial win over the Red Devils - and will also need Manchester City to throw a spanner in the works and do likewise against Chelsea.

Frauen-Bundesliga

Matchday 14 in the 2023/24 Frauen-Bundesliga kicks off with a clash starring two sides that are pretty much at opposite ends of the table: RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt. Leipzig currently sit in tenth spot, two points above the drop zone, and will obviously need a win in order to get themselves out of a very tough situation. Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt find themselves in third and saw their four match winning streak snapped last round following a heavy 3-0 defeat to title-chasing Wolfsburg. It goes without saying that Frankfurt will look to take advantage of Leipzig's woes as a win would help them pull within three points of Wolfsburg - for 24 hours, at least.

Speaking of Wolfsburg, they, too, will be facing a relegation-threatened side this weekend. Nürnberg, who are one of several sides battling the drop, will now have the rather difficult task of trying to contain a Wolfsburg side who have lost just once this season. Should Wolfsburg, as many expect, win that tie, they will temporarily leap-frog Bayern Munich back into top spot ahead of their title challengers' clash against struggling Essen later this weekend.

Liga F

After a surprise result from their last game, all eyes will be on Barcelona as the Blaugrana face Atletico Madrid this weekend. There will be no perfect season for Barcelona, who dropped points in a 1-1 draw against Levante, but are still nine points clear of Real Madrid in the race for the Liga F title. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid, who held their cross-town rivals to a stalemate last round, come into this contest sitting in fifth spot and have won just one of their last five matches.

Real Madrid, for their part, will naturally aim to get back to winning ways when they take on a Granadilla Tenerife side who have picked up just four points from their last five, while Levante's 1-1 draw with Barcelona will certainly inspire them in their upcoming match against Eibar as they chase a Champions League football spot for next season.

Top news in women's football

Barcelona's long-standing home record comes to an end

As the saying goes, "All good things come to an end". That certainly applies to Barcelona, who have established themselves as one of the top sides in women's football over the past decade. Prior to their meeting with Levante on Wednesday, the Blaugrana had made another perfect start to the season and had yet to drop points in a home game since...2019.

Yes, that's right. Barcelona were on a 79 match winning streak on home turf across all competitions, but despite taking the lead, Levante struck back in the 55th minute and managed to hang on for a 1-1 draw. The reigning Liga F champions still do have a comfortable lead over the chasing pack, but certainly will be under a little bit of pressure to avoid dropping points when they face Atletico Madrid this weekend.

Lena Oberdorf becomes most expensive German football player

She might be young, but Lena Oberdorf has already received plenty of plaudits for her excellent showings in the middle of the park. Thus, it is no surprise that Bayern Munich have decided to spent big in order to prise her away from rival club Wolfsburg. According to reports, Bayern paid just under $500,000 to secure the German international on a contract that is set to run until 2028, and certainly will do wonders to boost their ambitions to challenge for titles over the next few seasons.

At the moment, Wolfsburg are second in the league behind Bayern and as such, Oberdorf, who has already won several titles with her current side, will be inspired to help them clinch one more before she leaves this summer. The 22-year-old was part of the Wolfsburg team that were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Barcelona in last season's UEFA Women's Champions League final. She was also a key part of Germany's squad at the Women's EURO competition in 2022, and was named as the best-performing young player in that tournament.
