Valencia and Villarreal for UEFA Champions League football next seasonSpain’s La Liga & Its 2011/12 UEFA Champions League Contenders

Since the start of the season, the majority of football’s public worldwide had their eyes fixed on the Barcelona-Real Madrid duel at the very top of La Liga’s table. But there is more to the Spanish Primera Division than just these two good old rivals and many certainly missed the intriguing journey of other clubs such as Valencia and Villarreal.

Yet, this duo also stands a chance of representing Spain in Europe’s most prestigious club competition next year—the UEFA Champions League.

As La Liga enters its very final day of the 2010/11 season, there are no battles for spots within the top 4 zone. Put the title race aside; it has already been won by Barcelona. Now, talking about Champions League places, the top 3 have been decided.

Valencia have clinched the last automatic tickets while Villarreal have to settle with the fourth place. It impossible for the Yellow Submarines to torment Los Che now, with a 6-point gap separating the two teams ahead of match-day 38. Italy’s Serie A & Its Not-Completely-Decided Champions League ZoneLazio or Udinese? Which team will have the chance of reaching the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League season through play-offs?

Among next season’s 4 Italian participants in the UEFA Champions League, 3 names have been confirmed. Here, we are talking about recently-crowned Serie A champions AC Milan, 2010 European kings Internazionale and Napoli.

As of now, the position number 4 is being occupied by Udinese—who are 4 points behind Napoli. Mathematically, however, Udinese face a challenge from fifth-placed Lazio as the table below shows it.

Analytically, it may also appear like an upset for Udinese is very much possible given that match-day 38 is against AC Milan whereas Lazio have an easier task away to relegation survivors Lecce. So who gets this Champions League spot?

A point should be enough for Udinese to keep hold of the last Champions League spot in the Italian Serie A. But if Lazio get favored by Milan whereas they beat Lecce, then they will join Spain’s Villarreal in the play-offs for a place in the group stages of the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League.
