Les Parisians secured their fourth trophy of the season via shootouts.

Paris Saint-Germain secured the Coupe de la Ligue trophy on Friday by defeating Olympique Lyon 6-5 on penalties following a drawn-out encounter. After 120 minutes, neither of the side was able to break the deadlock but Bertrand Traore's missed spot-kick proved to be the decider in the night's encounter.

The game staged at the Saint-Denis was the last of its kind after the LFP voted in September 2019 in favor of the competition's indefinite suspension. The objective was to reduce fixture congestion in seasons that follow.

Indeed, the match lived up to expectation with both PSG and Lyon putting on displays worthy of finalists. For the most part of the proceeding, goalkeepers of both sides - Keylor Navas and Anthony Lopes, emerged as heroes - pulling off one remarkable save after the other. At the end, it was the former Real Madrid star whose performance proved crucial in a game whose outcome was unaffected by Rafael Da Silva's 120th-minute sending off.

After both PSG and Lyon had scored five out of five attempts from the penalty spot, the Costa Rican saved Bertrand Traore's shot intended for the bottom-right corner. Pablo Sarabia subsequently slotted home the final kick of the game to secure the title for the Ligue 1 champions. Watch:
