The Red Devils, the Citizens, and Tottenham all suffered embarrassing defeats over the weekend, while Liverpool continued their impressive winning streak.

Matchweek eight in the Premier League has wrapped up, with the second international break of this season looming. There were plenty of interesting results in the latest round, with Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal being the only top-six sides to register victories over the weekend.

The Reds beat Leicester 2-1 thanks to a controversial stoppage-time penalty while the Gunners earned a slim 1-0 win at home to Bournemouth. Lampard’s Chelsea, meanwhile, enjoyed a 4-1 triumph at Southampton.

Man City, on the other hand, suffered a shock 2-0 loss at home to Wolves, dropping eight points behind Liverpool. Tottenham were also humbled, losing 3-0 at Brighton while Man United were embarrassed once more, this time losing 1-0 at Newcastle. Here are the standout stats from the weekend action.

Brighton 3-0 Tottenham – Spurs reach unwanted feat

After the 7-2 loss at home to Bayern Munich, a response was expected from Tottenham. However, Spurs put in a horrible display once again, this time losing 3-0 away to Brighton. This saw Mauricio Pochettino’s side set two unwanted feats, becoming the Premier League side with the most losses in 2019 (17) and most away defeats (12) in all competitions.

Norwich 1-5 Aston Villa – The Villans end 11-year wait

Aston Villa’s 5-1 win at Norwich was a huge and unexpected triumph. Wesley grabbed a brace for the newly-promoted side, with Grealish, Hourihane, and Luiz also making the scoresheet. This was the first time in a long time that the Villans scored five goals in a single Premier League game.

Liverpool 2-1 Leicester – all the feats reached in the Reds late win

It was a controversial victory but a victory nonetheless for Liverpool. This means they have now won their first eight games of the season, becoming only the second Premier League side to achieve this and the first team to pull of this feat twice in the English top-flight.

The Reds have Mane to thank for the win. Not only did the Senegalese star score the opening goal, but he won them the stoppage-time penalty, which Milner converted. Sadio’s first-half strike took his Premier League goalscoring tally with the Merseyside giants to 50, becoming the 10th Liverpool man to reach the half a century mark.

Finally, Liverpool’s winning streak has now reached 17 games. This means Klopp’s men are one win away from equaling the record for most consecutive wins set by Guardiola’s Man City. To make things interesting, the Reds next game will be an Old Trafford clash with bitter rivals Man Utd.

Arsenal 1-0 Bournemouth – strong home form continues for the Gunners

The 1-0 win over Bournemouth was Arsenal’s 17th home win in the Premier League under Emery. Only Liverpool (21) and Man City (20) have more home wins during that same time.

Man City 0-2 Wolves – Pep’s men set unwanted record

It was a shocking performance from Man City accompanied by a shocking result. No one expected Wolves to win 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium but they did, making this the first time the Citizens have lost a home game without scoring under Guardiola.

Newcastle 1-0 Man Utd – the Red Devils make Premier League history for all the wrong reasons

Another away game, another away defeat for Man United. This means the Red Devils have failed to win their last eight games on the road, something they have never done in Premier League history. It’s also their longest away winless league run since 1989.
