Video Assistant Referee technology has finally been included in the UEFA Champions League, but the first big decision left fans a bit confused.
The first half of the game between Ajax and Real Madrid had the Dutch side dominating Los Blancos, and their efforts translated into a 1-0 advantage thanks to Nicolás Tagliafico. The bad news came when referee Damir Skomina decided to use VAR technology and disallowed the goal due to an offside position.
According to the ref, striker Dusan Tadic interfered in Thibaut Courtois' attempt to clear the ball as Tagliafico headed it into the back of the net, causing the goal to be disallowed.
Have a look at the first controversial call in which VAR was used (Image might be geo-restricted).
