The rumored tension between Edinson Cavani and Neymar continues to spiral. A row over a penalty during the 2-0 win over Lyon led to the two nearly trading blows, according to L’Equipe.
The Brazilian wanted to take the spot kick but was unhappy at being refused by the Uruguayan. Sport later reported that the world’s most expensive player went to demand that his South American team-mate be sold as they cannot coincide.
Soon afterwards, Cavani was linked with a move to the Premier League and a Napoli return. The Sun then claimed that Alexis Sanchez has already been identified as the Uruguayan’s replacement.
Of course, there remains the possibility that the aforementioned reports are way off the mark. Cavani denied any row with the Brazilian and the former Barcelona superstar reportedly apologized for the incident.
However, a recent report by El Pais makes it hard to believe all is well with the Ligue 1 leaders. The Spanish daily newspaper writes that Nasser Al-Khelaifi attempted to resolve the issue by offering Cavani a €1m bonus to hand over penalty duties to Neymar.
The striker’s response: “I’m not interested in money.”
The PSG chairman then went to their Brazilian ace to inform him that spot kicks will remain Cavani’s responsibility. According to El Pais, “Neymar’s reaction was angry.”
Les Parisiens must find a resolution soon. The risk of having too many stars on one team in conflict between team-mates, but PSG know that they could be unstoppable if they can find a solution.
