Barcelona star midfielder Ivan Rakitic is set to sign a new deal that will keep him at the Nou Camp untill 2021. Spanish publication SPORT understands that the agent of the Croatian midfielder, Arturo Canales, has been held in negotiations with the Catalan club over a deal and the outcome has been positive.
The club will make the announcement official in the coming few weeks, the report claims. The 28-year-old is also said to have been a top transfer target for Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea. But the new deal, if signed, could see him leave the La Liga defending champions at the age of 33, which almost rules out a possibility of a future move to the reds or blues in England.
Rakitic joined Barcelona from their rivals Sevilla in 2014. He has since established himself as a crucial member of the squad, having played 141 league games and scored 21 goals.
