Luckily for Borussia Dortmund, superstar striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has confirmed that he won’t be leaving the Signal Iduna Park this summer.
Speaking to ZDF (as per Goal), the Gabonese superstar said "This year, no" when discussing the issue of a transfer.
This will come as a huge relief to Thomas Tuchel, who has lost Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan over the summer. Retaining Aubameyang – the 39-goal striker from last season – for another campaign will help BVB challenge Bayern for the title.
However, the Bundesliga giants could still lose their lethal forward, as the player admitted to ZDF that he would be willing to leave Signal Iduna Park. The player is open to only one team, though.
According to the forward, he’d only quit BVB if Spanish giants Real Madrid came calling. As stated by the 27-year-old, he swore to his grandfather that he will one day play for Los Blancos, a promise he intends to keep.
"But the only club I would leave Dortmund for are Real Madrid. If they don't come calling, I don't leave.
"My grandfather, the dad of my mum, always wished that I would play in Spain. Two years ago, when he died, I promised him that someday I will play for Real - and I work hard to reach that goal.
"Real Madrid is my main goal but at the moment I like it in Dortmund. If there is a chance to go to Madrid, I will immediately say yes - but at the moment there is no contact."
