Manchester United legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has criticized the club’s ‘boring’ football. The Red Devils face Bournemouth later today in a match they must win by scoring 19 goals and avoid conceding if they are to qualify for next season’s Champions League action.
The club’s almost-certain absence in next season’s UCL could lead to Louis Van Gaal’s exit, while paving way for Jose Mourinho’s arrival. The Portuguese tactician has been widely linked with the Old Trafford job despite denying countless time that that he has secret deal with the club’s executives to make him the next manager after LVG’s expected departure this summer.
Back to Schmeichel, the Danish shot stopper who spent eight seasons at Old Trafford, told Sky Sports News:
"Manchester United - a club that love and have followed since I was a kid - have bored me to death this season.
"We are one of those clubs that has been dragged in completely the wrong direction.’’
The 52-year-old made 292 appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side from 1991 to 1999, and won five league titles, three FA Cups, one Football League Cup, four FA Charity Shields, one UEFA Champions League title, and one UEFA Super Cup. 
In the interview, he added:
"We never used to play football the way we play now. We never played for 1-0 and then defend. We always went for the second goal and the third.
"All the hard work that Sir Alex put in to recover what was there from Sir Matt Busby has been undone in a very short period of time.
"I, as a fan, want to be winning but to entertain equally as much too. I want exciting players."
Peter, whose son Kasper Schmeichel won the Premier League in the just-concluded season with Leicester City, is regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time. He know joins another Man Utd great Paul Scholes, who has been openly vocal about the club’s boring playing style, while recommending the Dutchman’s sack.
