FC Barcelona have been handed a huge boost in their quest to successfully defend La Liga title thanks to relegation-threatened Sporting Gijon who pulled a shocking win over title-contenders Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
The visitors were the first to find the back of the net through the on-form Antoine Griezmann in the 29th minute, but two late goals from Antonio Sanabria and Carlos Castro were enough to dismiss the visitors at Estadio El Molinon.

Gijon, who are staring into the face of relegation, now sit second-last on La Liga table with 27 points, three above bottom placed Levante, who travel to Estadio Municipal de Riazor to face Deportivo La Coruna.
Back to La Liga title chase, league leaders FC Barcelona have a huge chance of extending their lead to 11 points when they face Villarreal on Sunday. Currently, Luis Enrique’s men are in firm control of the table with 75 points, eight more than second placed Atletico Madrid. With Real Madrid sitting third with 63 points, the Catalan giants could as well start popping the champagne as they enjoy their eight-point lead.
The Rojiblancos will host Real Betis at the Vincente Calderon Stadium in their next La Liga fixture, hoping to bounce back from the embarrasing defeat to Gijon.
