The team made it to the semi-finals in Argentina 2011. They had their debut in 1967 and won against Bolivia.

Venezuela missed out on making it to the final four years ago by losing on penalty kicks to Paraguay in the semi-finals. This time, despite not being placed in an easy group, manager Noel Sanvicente has assembled a team capable of competing against the big dogs of CONMEBOL.

Venezuela was ranked 39th in the FIFA World Ranking by the time the last Copa America happened. They experienced a big slump and fell all the way to 88th place during 2014. They had lost 37 spots in September, but have made their way back to 69 by now. Out of their four games this year, they have only lost one.

Copa America History

When Venezuela had their debut in 1967, they defeated the reigning champions Venezuela in their first game. It would not be until 2007 that they hosted the tournament for the first time but they couldn't take full advantage of it, They were leaders of their group but lost against Uruguay in the quarterfinals. Their fourth place in 2011 has been their best result ever.

Players to Watch

Almost every player in this team comes from the domestic league. Their two best strikers are expected to make their best efforts in order to give La Vinotinto a chance to move forward in a group they share with Colombia, Brazil and Peru. Edder Farias and Gelmin Rivas. Farias has scored two goals in eight games with the national team. Rivas has scored 38 goals in 67 games since joining Deportivo Tachira in 2013.
